Tips For Getting A Better Night's Sleep

Sleep is something I absolutely adore. I’m someone who makes bedtime a priority but often I find myself exhausted in the morning and wishing I could sleep for another hour or two. I typically get  7 hours a night, which should be enough without fantasizing about afternoon naps on a regular basis. I decided to look for ways to improve the quality of my sleep and it has done wonders for my energy levels. While I’m still tired some mornings when my alarm clock goes off, the feeling fades quicker and I’m not as sluggish come afternoon. So, for today’s blog post I thought I would share with you my tips for getting a better night’s sleep!

My first tip is to get a pillow mist. The Neal’s Yard Remedies Goodnight Pillow Mist* has been a total life changer for me. I was excited to give it a try, but I was actually blown away by how well I’ve been sleeping since I started using this. You mist your pillow and/or sheets with it and it is designed to deeply relax you. I spray my pillow right beside where I rest my face and I fall asleep almost instantly.

The lavender scent is so relaxing and falling asleep is no longer an issue for me. I also find I don’t wake up in the night anymore when using this mist either. I’ve actually been waking up 10 and 20 minutes before my alarm feeling well rested, which is something I haven’t felt in years! I wasn’t expecting to love it this much, but I totally do and have been recommending this mist to everyone!

My next tip is to prep for the day ahead. By making my lunch and laying out my clothes for the next day, it’s easier to relax knowing that’s all taken care of. I’m not laying awake in bed at 11:30 stressing about what I’m going to wear the next day; which is something that would happen a lot. It makes mornings seamless and really helps relax your mind by knowing everything has already been taken care of.

My next tip is to unplug. Turning off the electronic devices an hour before bed helps your brain relax so you can get a better sleep. This isn’t always an option for me though as my evenings are usually spent working on my blog since I’m at work all day. I recently picked up these blue light filter glasses, which I reviewed HERE, and they actually help block out the harmful blue light that makes you stay awake so if I’m going to be on my phone or computer, I make sure to wear them so it doesn’t disrupt my sleep.

My next tip is to skip the wine and opt for a cup of tea instead. While I’m not a daily wine drinker, I do enjoy a glass through the week sometimes and I often enjoy it in the bath before bed. It makes me feel a bit sleepy and I find I am able to fall asleep faster after a glass. While the wine can help you fall asleep faster, it can also cause you to wake up in the night; which leads to that tired, groggy feeling in the morning. By switching to herbal tea, you’re still getting the relaxing benefit, but you’ll sleep more soundly through the night.

My last tip is to establish a bedtime routine. By getting into a routine, you will train your body into knowing it’s time for sleep. Brushing your teeth, washing your face, laying out the next day’s clothes, etc. will help your brain wind down for the day.
