It’s no secret that stress negatively impacts your health. I’m someone who needs to learn how to better manage her stress and it’s something I am trying to improve upon.

I think we are easily able to identify when we’re stressed because of how it makes us feel mentally; but stress can also have a negative impact on our physical appearance too.

I’m someone who is really into taking care of my skin so today I thought it would be fun to share 4 signs your skin is stressed + what to do about it:

1. Your Eyes Look Super Tired

When you don’t get enough sleep, your blood circulation decreases which causes the blood vessels under your eyes to expand. This is what makes your eyes look dark and puffy.

The fix? Getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night is your best bet. If that’s not doable though, a good eye cream the next best thing. When you are stressed your body loses water and it doesn’t shed dead skin cells as quickly as it normally does. This often leads to a dull complexion and even dry, uncomfortable skin.

This is going to sluff away dead skin cells to give you a brighter looking complexion. 3. You’re Breaking Out More Than Usual

When your body releases the stress hormone cortisol, it also releases some testosterone which spikes oil production. Excess oil is a contributing factor when it comes to breakouts so it is very common to experience more acne than usual when you’re stressed.

The Fix? Make sure you are properly cleansing your face 1-2 times per day. I also like to use an overnight acne treatment like the Kate Somerville EradiKate. This solution contains the highest level of sulfur allowed and works to banish acne. You take a bit on a cotton swab and apply it to any blemishes before bed and then rinse off in the morning. It doesn’t smell the greatest but it works really well to get rid of existing acne and it helps prevent under the surface acne from popping up.

Inflammation is a common side effect of stress and can leave your skin feeling sensitive and irritated.
