I was so excited for the launch of the MAC Retro Matte liquid lipsticks. I’m obsessed with liquid lipsticks and MAC makes incredible lipsticks, so I had high hopes for this collection.
Right off the bat I didn’t care for the packaging. I liked that the lid looks like their regular lipsticks, but I thought it looked out of place on top of the clear tube. I wish they had made the entire tube look like their iconic lipsticks instead.
Packaging aside, I was still really excited to give them a try, so I raced out and purchased ‘Divine Divine’, a pretty, light pink hue.
I love this shade. It’s different than anything in my collection and is such a pretty colour. It’s quite light but it still creates a statement look.
While I loved the colour, unfortunately, the formula just wasn’t what I had hoped for. It may be because I chose a lighter shade, but I found the lipstick to look patchy on my lips and not opaque unless I really piled it on, which wasn’t a good look either.
I also found the formula to be extremely drying. I expect liquid lipsticks to be rather drying normally, but this was definitely the driest formula I have used, making it really uncomfortable to wear.
All in all I was pretty disappointed with this lipstick. I wanted to like it because the shade was so pretty, but the bad outweighed the good in my opinion. I think I’ll be sticking to MAC’s regular lipsticks in the future.
Have you tried any of the Retro Matte liquid lipsticks? What did you think of them?
