Benefits of Quinoa Flour

In my quest to eat better and eliminate soy from my diet, I discovered the Namaste Foods Quinoa Flour*. I don’t have much experience with different flours as a lot of them are nut based and not something I can have so I was excited to find a nut free alternative that is also free of a ton of other allergens too. But what exactly are the benefits of quinoa flour? There’s quite a few actually!

What is quinoa flour?

It’s essentially just quinoa ground up into a powder consistency that can be used as flour.

Okay, but why should I try it?

There are so many health benefits to incorporating quinoa flour into your diet. For starters, it’s high in protein! It’s also high in fibre, iron, magnesium, B vitamins, calcium, Vitamin E, and antioxidants. It’s also low on the glycemic index. Quinoa flour is great whether you stick to a gluten-free diet or not.

How do I use it?

You can use quinoa flour as you would normal flour. In small quantities it is moist and does get drier in larger quantities. It’s best to mix with all-purpose flour (or another flour type of your choosing) at 25-50% for ideal results though you can use 100% quinoa flour if you choose to.

Does it alter the taste of my food?

Quinoa flour does have a slightly nutty flavour. It doesn’t change the taste too much, however it can come through sometimes.
