At Home Manicure

Fun fact: I’ve never gone to a salon for a manicure. I have never minded doing my nails at home. I actually find doing an at home manicure to be a nice way to relax and pamper myself!

While I’m not incredible at doing nails, my technique has improved over the years so today I thought I would share with you my tips for doing your nails at home:

  1. Remove old polish
This one should go without saying, but make sure that any existing nail varnish is removed before getting started.
  2. File any rough edges
Filing your nails to make them smooth is going to feel better and it will help your polish go on better. You could also use a nail buffer to buff out any rough surfaces at this point too.
  3. Moisturize
Massage a nice hand lotion into your hands and nails. It takes just an added minute but feels so luxurious.
  4. Apply a base coat
Applying a base coat will help prep your nails so polish will go on evenly and if you’re using a dark shade it will help prevent the polish from staining your nails.
  5. Apply one coat of your nail varnish, wait for it to dry, and apply a second coat.
  6. Apply a top coat
When your nail polish has dried, apply a top coat of your choice to help prolong your manicure.
  7. Clean up
Once everything is dry, clean up any excess polish that has gotten around the edges onto your fingers by dipping a cotton swab into some nail polish remover.

And that’s it! For this week’s manicure I’ve opted for Essie‘s ‘Strike A Pose-Itano’*, which is part of their Resort 2017 Collection inspired by Italy’s Amalfi Coast.

The collection includes ‘Strike A Pose-Itano’ which is a gorgeous mint colour with more blue undertones than green, ‘Resort Romanaza’* which is a deep yet vibrant pink, ‘Ciao Effect’* which is a lavender with grey undertones, and ‘Sorrento Yourself’* a beautiful rosy terracotta shade. Essie is definitely my favourite brand for drugstore polishes and this collection is so pretty for spring/summer!
