5 Reasons You Need Your Beauty Sleep

Beauty sleep is a funny term. I grew up hearing it all the time and didn’t really give it much thought or validation. I mean if all you’re doing is sleeping, what does that have to do with being beautiful? Turns out my mother, grandmother, etc. were on to something!

While you sleep your skin has the chance to repair and renew itself, leading to a brighter, healthier looking complexion. This in turn will keep you looking youthful longer. 7-9 hours of sleep per night and it’ll help me look better? Sign me up!

It can be hard to set aside the time to get a full night’s sleep, especially when we’re busy, but it is important. Here are 5 reasons you need your beauty sleep:

Banish Breakouts

While you sleep your body suppresses the release of the stress hormone, cortisol. Cortisol is a leading contributor to acne and inflammation. So, getting enough sleep gives the body a break from that stress so your acne can clear up!

Get Glowing skin

If you aren’t getting enough sleep your skin is likely to look dull. Sleep deprevation reduces your skin’s natural moisture barrier which results in a dull, dry complexion. This one is especially important in the winter as the colder temperatures can have the same effect on your skin. Getting your beauty sleep can help combat this and give your skin a healthy looking glow!

Maintain a Healthy Weight

Lack of sleep causes your body to feel hungry. Also, if you haven’t had enough sleep you’re more likely to reach for unhealthy options, which ultimately leads to weight gain after a period of time. By getting enough sleep, you’ll keep your hormones in check so you can make healthier choices more easily!

Look More Youthful

Sleep causes a spike in the human growth hormone, which plumps up your skin. Plump skin looks younger since it reduces the appearance of fine lines!

So, while the odd all-nighter won’t kill you, getting enough sleep has an undeniable effect on the quality of our skin. Try to aim for 7-9 hours each night for better looking skin!
