Fall fashion is my favourite of all the seasons. I love when the time comes to swap my sundresses and tank tops for chunky knits and blanket scarves. While there are always new trends to try and new colours to add to your wardrobe this time of year, fall fashion is really quite classic in my opinion and I find it is easy to reuse pieces from previous years and still look current.
There are certain basics when it comes to fall fashion that will always remain in style, which is what I wanted to talk about today. Here are 5 must-have pieces for fall that you probably already have in your closet:
This one is kind of obvious and I’m sure it’s one of the first things you think of when it comes to fall fashion, but I thought it was still important to mention. There are so many different styles to choose from so it’s easy to find ones to suit your personal style. I personally like to invest in a few pairs as boots are something I wear nearly every day once fall rolls around. I have tall black boots, tall brown riding boots, and a few pairs of ankle booties in grey, black, and burgundy. I have had all of these boots for at least two years now and find I am still easily able to create current looks using them.
This is another obvious choice for fall but my personal favourite! Depending on your style you can add plaid into your wardrobe in a variety of ways. My favourite ways are a plaid flannel shirt and a blanket scarf (not at the same time of course)! They look good dressed up or down so you can style them for any occasion with ease. You don’t have to opt for a flannel button down or a blanket scarf though, you could add plaid to your wardrobe with a hair accessory or even a coat. The options are endless.
I love knit sweaters for fall. I would avoid white but aside from that, any colour of knit sweater is going to look great for fall. They feel super cozy but also serve a purpose and keep you warm. Some of my favourite colours for fall are deep plum, black, and burnt orange. Sweaters are versatile pieces too so you can keep them casual with leggings or denim but also dress them up with a skirt and tights for work.
Dark Wash Denim
I associate light wash denim with summertime so when fall rolls around I love breaking out my darker washes. Deep blue and black are among my most-worn and while I do wear them year round I find they look especially good in the fall. The darker washes pair effortlessly with all of my fall shirts and sweaters. While I prefer skinny jeans, any style is going to work well.
Cardigans are some of my most-loved pieces when it comes to my wardrobe. I loved them since my early high school days and the feeling has never faded. Cardigans are a great transition piece to have in those early days of fall when the mornings are chilly but the afternoons warm up. They’re also a great way to transition some of your summer tank tops and t-shirts to look more fall-appropriate so that you can get more wear out of them.
